The Datta master of fearlessness
Held in the Datta tradition as an incarnation of Dattatreya himself, Swami Samarth appeared in Akkalkot in the mid-1800s — a towering, unpredictable avadhuta whose origins no one could establish and whose presence dissolved the pretensions of scholars and the fears of the simple alike.
He taught rarely in discourse and constantly in act, cutting through ritual formality toward direct faith. The assurance long associated with him — fear not, I am beside you — remains the living heart of his tradition, repeated daily by millions in Maharashtra and beyond.
